Perhaps the hospital that you work for does not offer them or you have been considering the optionof purchasing extremely expensive individual benefits. With an increasing amount of part-time and casual staffing opportunities in hospitals, there is an ever-growing demand for comprehensive and affordable benefits for health care workers who may not be able to opt-in to benefits provided in the workplace.

That being said, it is possible for casual hospital employees to receive group health care benefits through Health Care Providers (HCP). Here is what you need to know if you are a casual hospital employee in need of a comprehensive health benefits plan.

 

How Does It Work?

 

Health Care Providers was developed to provide health benefits to employees who would not otherwise have coverage. These employees include part-time, casual, or retired hospital staff. To qualify for an HCP plan, you must be working in ahospital, but there is no minimum requirement of hours.

 

Determine Your Eligibility

 

For hospital employees who work under 18 hours per week, HCP’s Plan 2 for part-time, casual, or retired hospital employees is available. Once you apply for Plan 2, you are guaranteed coverage at one of two levels: Essential or Complete. Each level has different types of coverage and a corresponding monthly premium. You do not have to submit a statement of health form with your application or fill in any health questionnaires to qualify for any health benefits through HCP. Guaranteed coverage means that your health needs will be provided for, regardless of your medical history.

 

Coverage at-a-Glance

 

Plan 2 includes guaranteed coverage at the Essential and Complete levels for all eligible applicants. There are also optional add-ons to each level of coverage for additional services such as dental care. Submitting a statement of health with your application may qualify you for an Optimum level of coverage (available at no extra cost), pending consideration and approval. HCP’s plan for casual hospital employees provides comprehensive coverage that includes the following:

 

Health Coverage

 

Plan 2 includes comprehensive coverage for a variety of health care services and products. Complete details of Plan 2 are outlined on the HCP website. Plan 2 provides multiple levels of coverage for prescription drugs, alleviating costs associated with costly drugs. Additionally, there is coverage for out-of-country travel insurance to cover emergency medical services. There are also numerous health services included in the plan such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, osteopathy, chiropody, podiatry, and acupuncture (among others). There is also coverage available for eye exams and prescription eyeglasses. If you require hearing aids, there is coverage available for purchases and repairs at both the Essential and Complete levels of coverage.

 

Optional Dental Coverage

 

There is optional dental coverage available to be added on to any level of coverage inPlan 2. The dental coverage comes in Basic and Enhanced levels, both of which include different ranges of maximum coverage.
