Unlike virtually any other group plan, HCP is available
on a voluntary basis to all individual employees and
their families regardless of where they work in the hospital.It is a voluntary benefits program
It guarantees coverage for everyone
Every hospital employee is guaranteed our Essential level of coverage. Employees from endorsing hospitals who apply within certain time limits will be guaranteed additional coverage at the Complete level for no additional charge. Those in good health may be offered the most extensive coverage at the Optimum level, also for no additional charge.
Employees and retirees under age 65
Plan 1 is designed for individuals working 18 hours or more
per week on average. (Hours worked at other
hospitals may be included in the calculation and the average
is taken over the period of a year.)
Plan 2 is for those working less than 18 hours on average
or those taking early retirement.
65 + plan is for hospital employees whether working or
retired who are 65 years or older
It includes our Essential Health Benefits with:
- No lifetime coverage maximum
- No deductibles
- No upper age limit
65+ Plan out-of-country coverage
(available without medical evidence) has:
- No pre-existing condition clause
- 60 day per trip coverage with $1 million
per calendar year and 100% coinsurance

The plan was launched in 1997 at the Oshawa General Hospital (now Lakeridge Health Oshawa) and has grown to have over 160 endorsing hospital sites in the province of Ontario. Endorsing sites range from hospitals like Lady Dunn in Wawa to Sunnybrook and Mount Sinai in Toronto.
